| Judy Niemack & Esther Kaiser: WATER AND WINDVocal Jazz Judy Niemack (voc), Esther Kaiser (voc), Alexander Wienand (piano), Andreas Henze (bass) Esther Kaiser_Judy NiemackÂJudy Niemack Solo Esther Kaiser Solo [Info +/-]
In this concert, not only two exceptional vocalists meet, but also the natural elements of water and wind. Pieces from Judy Niemack's work "Combing the wind" meet pieces from Kaiser's current album "Water" - and the very individual voices of the two vocalists form an exciting contrast and together result in a new whole. The paths of Judy Niemack and Esther Kaiser crossed in the 1990s in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music, where Judy Niemack worked as a professor for jazz singing for many years. The people from Freiburg i.Br. Esther Kaiser, who originally came from Esther Kaiser, studied there until 2002 and initially made a name for herself on the German jazz scene with her first publication "Jazz Poems" (2004) as Vol.1 of the Jazzthing series "Next Generation". Many more albums were to follow, most recently her album "WATER". Since 2014 she has held a professorship for jazz rock pop singing at the Dresden University of Music. When the two singers met in Berlin at the end of the 90s, Judy Niemack, who comes from Pasadena, California, had been touring internationally for many years, released critically acclaimed CDs and in the years that followed not only held a singing professorship at the Jazzinstitut Berlin but also at the Basque "Musikene" in San Sebastian, Spain. Inspired by the "wind combs" by Eduardo Chillida and Luis Peña Granchegui installed there by the sea, sculptures that are moved and made to sound by the wind, she composed her work "Combing the wind". Some of this will be heard in the joint concert program "WATER and WIND", as well as Esther Kaiser's album WATER, which deals with the subject of water in a partly metaphorical, partly in a very direct way.

Syrian oudist and composer Mohannad Nasser has distinguished himself as an innovative and creative musician with years of experience in the Middle Eastern music scene and expertise in teaching Oriental music. His compositions have been described by audiences as "delicate, serene and magical". His deep desire to share his understanding of music led him to develop his educational project "Contemporary today, Heritage tomorrow" which led to his master's degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music. At Berklee College, Mohannad performed the musical "Mediterranean Sundance" with internationally renowned guitarist Al Di Meola. His musical vision is based on traditional Arabic music with a strong touch of oriental roots. Mohannad's journey with the oud came from his rich student days at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus, where he perfected his knowledge of traditional oriental music and explored western classical music. Throughout his career he has been able to expand Oud skills, adapting them to different musical genres such as classical music, jazz music, Brazilian music or flamenco. In 2015, Mohannad - like most Syrian artists - found himself in a difficult time and daily danger due to the conflict in Syria. So he moved to Lebanon to become a music teacher at several international organizations that offer music lessons to refugee children. This inspiring experience inspired him to encourage the next generation of musicians to find their voice. In 2017, Mohannad released his group Oumi Ensemble's first album, Imaginary Dance, and launched his solo project, L'Oud whispers. Mohannad has received several awards at international oud competitions and performs his music all over the world.

| Susanne Folk Das neue Album: Love Is Not A WeaknessJazzPop, Singer/Song, Vocal
 Susanne Folk – voice & grand piano www.susannefolk.com[Info +/-]
Love Is Not A Weakness is a debut album, but by no means a premiere for Berlin-based musician and composer Susanne Folk. The German-American, whose last name is pronounced like the English "folk", has been present for years in stylistically different formations such as Azolia, the Susanne Folk Trio & Celina Muza, Call Me Cleo, and also So Weiss until 2012, mostly on the saxophone or clarinet . In Call Me Cleo she takes on the role of the singer. The bands received a lot of positive feedback for their productions, and tours took them through North America, China, African and European countries. With Love Is Not A Weakness, Susanne Folk presents herself for the first time as a singer/songwriter alone at the grand piano. Musically, Susanne Folk moves in the terrain of advanced pop, with selective references to sources of inspiration such as Amy Lee (Evanescence), Tori Amos and Rufus Wainwright. In some facets, folk reveals a soft spot for gothic aesthetics, quite a few chords refer to their jazz experiences. A certain melancholy runs through many titles, promoted by the rather dark colored vocal lines and expressive phrasing of the singer. With her first solo album, Susanne Folk sets a striking example. Love Is Not A Weakness Builds on the power of a charismatic voice, accompanied by the natural sounds of the grand piano. This concentration, coupled with a determined renunciation of electronic sounds, creates a special intimacy that suits Folk's thoughtful lyrics. The result is a collection of timeless songs of great intensity.

The Balkan Spirit Ensemble is the musical exchange of two different musical languages - that of Balkan folk songs and that of modern jazz music. The melodic strength and vitality of these songs are told through the ensemble's interpretation in a contemporary musical language. So well-known or less well-known songs from all over the Balkans are represented in a new sound format, which is decorated with classic, modern harmony, polyrhythmic and oriental sounds. In addition to processing and arranging traditional Balkan songs, the Balkan Spirit Ensemble's repertoire is also enriched by their own compositions, which unfold in this style. International musicians have been invited to the Balkan Spirit Ensemble project, who contribute to the unique sound of the ensemble with their original interpretations. Balkan Spirit Ensemble will bring this newly developed musical language to the audience and take the listeners on a musical journey in which the warmth and vitality of Balkan folklore with the rhythmic and harmonious colors of contemporary music provide a unique experience. In this way, a supra-regional and international musical dialogue is created in the heart of cultural Europe, which brings different musical worlds together and fascinates the listeners with its own form of expression. In 2023, audiences will be able to enjoy a series of concerts where the Balkan Spirit Ensemble will present a prominent soloist from the field of Balkan folklore. An archaically rumbling orchestral sound with smashing brass fanfares, punk vocals, filigree electronic sounds and tearing grooves can be heard. The adventurous group has been on the road for twelve years. Constantly on the move. Played over 300 concerts on four continents: on the stages of big jazz festivals as well as in backyard clubs or - back to the roots - on the street. Timpani, snare drum and wind instruments are reminiscent of a marching band, electronic instruments, vocals and effects a rock band. They blend these opposites seemingly effortlessly into one fascinating bastard. The sonic pressure of the horn section, the hellish drive of the rhythm section and the crazy improvisations make them one of the most exciting live bands. The music is written by different band members. That brings great variety. But the sound remains unmistakable. A collective with the intimacy and freedom of a well-rehearsed trio. The arrangements can be changed spontaneously at any time by means of a show of hands. The earlier chaos and party sound has become more sophisticated over the years and has lost none of its power and thirst for adventure. Hardened by countless performances at major festivals and on the streets, they shift the audience's horizons. They mix their diverse influences from rock, world music and free jazz with supersonic sound and catapult jazz into an exciting future.

Both Sides of Joni is a collection of newly arranged Joni Mitchell songs. Indiana jazz singer Janiece Jaffe found strength and inspiration in Joni Mitchell's timeless poetry during the Covid crisis. She wanted to pass on this inspiration, clarify Joni's important messages with new musical accompaniment, and bring new hope to the world. She dealt intensively with the linguistic content and invited pianist Monika Herzig to collaborate on the music. In the open barn with distance, the friends used the summer of 2020 to work out arrangements, which then premiered in March 2021 in the Indianapolis Jazz Kitchen in front of an enthusiastic audience. Many listeners met for the first time after a year of isolation and drew courage and hope from the highly qualified jazz interpretations. Spurred on by the positive response, the arrangements were recorded with a group of top-notch musicians in December 2021. Shortly after the master was created, Janiece passed away unexpectedly during heart surgery on November 23, 2022. This project is Janiece`s gift to us and together with the New York jazz singer Alexis Cole we realize her dream on concert stages worldwide in summer 2023.

The lockdown also had its good side: plenty of time, no appointments, free rehearsal rooms, an unprecedented silence for the sound recordings, the desire to meet (sometimes on the verge of illegality!), to play together, new and above all new constellations to try. Many projects have come about this way. Here are two new formations from this forced creative time. With the trio Okuda/Müller/Hall, three particularly prominent players in Berlin's real-time music meet. Sensitive interaction creates an acoustic space in the realms of sound poetry open to all sides. The new trio ACM also locates itself in free musical association, although the flow of ideas here can definitely come closer to the jazz idiom. The second set is also the trio's record release concert. Made possible by a Senate grant, the recordings were made in the Berlin Traumton Studio, which were then released on the Berlin label AUT RECORDS. This concert gives a direct insight into the current work of the extremely lively and creative Berlin scene of contemporary jazz.

In the fourth decade of their existence, the band is back in the running. Freshly cast and fit as a fiddle, the project seems to have been given eternal youth. It was the end of the 1970s when music students were caught up in the pull of jazz rock that was just emerging. The mix of snappy grooves, high spirits and improvisation was hot and extremely contagious. Pioneers such as Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin or Joe Zawinul's Weather Report had set a huge ball rolling with their never-ending joy of playing. This special kind of music, for which a small but fine audience has been enthusiastic ever since. Maybe 'jazz rock' - or whatever it's called - is something like the road movie among the genres, this feeling of getting in and going and if the route is straight, stepping on the gas. Bajazzo was never a pure jazz band, but at least the naming had the four letters in mind. Which means as much as – use the fantastic possibilities of jazz! Current Album : Ten Wishes
