„Modern Tradition“ – eigentlich ein Paradoxon, beschreibt doch ganz gut, worum es sich bei
dieser Band handelt: ein Jazz-Quartett, das hauptsächlich Eigenkompositionen des Pianisten und
des Saxophonisten spielt, sich dabei aber nicht komplett von der Tradition löst, sondern ganz
bewusst Einflüsse aus beiden Welten vereint. Eine klare harmonische Sprache trifft dabei auf
erfrischend neue Melodien, es gibt fest definierte Abläufe und doch Raum für Freiheiten. MTJQ
ist ein junges Ensemble um die beiden Berliner Musiker Kenneth Berkel (Piano) und Niko
Zeidler (Saxophon), das Tradition mit neuen Ideen verknüpft. Nicht alt und verstaubt, sondern
mit einem neuen Blick, neuen Perspektiven, vielleicht auch immer noch ein bisschen auf der
Suche – das ist MTJQ. Im Frühjahr 2022 erschien ihr Debütalbum „Perfection“ bei Mons
Records.
‘Modern Tradition’ - actually a paradox, but it describes quite well what this band is all about: a jazz quartet that mainly plays original compositions by the pianist and by the saxophonist, but does not completely break away from tradition, but rather consciously combines influences from both worlds. A clear harmonic language meets
refreshingly new melodies, there are firmly defined sequences and yet room for freedom. MTJQ is a young ensemble led by the two Berlin musicians Kenneth Berkel (piano) and Niko Zeidler (saxophone), who combine tradition with new ideas. Not old and dusty, but with a new look, new perspectives, perhaps still a bit on the
search - that's MTJQ. Their debut album ‘Perfection’ was released in spring 2022 by Mons Records.
